The Difference Between Cologne and Perfume
by Dennis Hopkins
Have you ever notice that perfumes which are available in any departmental store or perfume shop is labelled "perfume" and also "cologne"? Apart from that, do you notice that the price difference between those two are huge? The reason to the price difference is because cologne is somewhat a heavily diluted perfume.
Perfumes are mixed with alcohol, which will evaporate after a few seconds applied on the skin leaving only the base note behind. Cologne consists of more alcohol compared to perfume; therefore the scent left is not strong. The scent will not last long as long as perfume due to the alcohol's concentration.
There are two types of bottles for perfumes, which are perfume spray and the dab on type. Be more careful when applying perfume. Do not spray excessively as the strong scent will cause the people around you to feel uncomfortable. If you are using the dab on type, you can apply the perfume behind both of your ears and also your wrists. As for cologne, it tends to evaporate at a very short period of time. We tend to apply more because we could not smell it as we are so used to the scent. This is absolutely not true. Anybody who gets close enough to you will be able to pick up the scent instantly.
Many people prefer cologne over perfume because it is cheap and comes in a bigger bottle. Perfume on the other hand is very concentrated and usually packaged in a small bottle. Therefore, perfume is much more expensive compared to cologne even though both products are able to provide the same results. Due to the concentration of alcohol and its evaporation time, the scent of a perfume may not be the same as cologne's although both smells fall on the same category.
